From Air to Sea, The Bahamas’ Tourism Business Is Stronger Than Ever
The tourism industry in The Bahamas is booming. With record breaking number of arrivals, hoteliers in the area are reporting record highs in hotel occupancy. The island is also reporting numerous accelerates and awards heralding in the upward trend in tourism.
Much of the success can be attributed to the islands brand campaign which featured the singer, songwriter and performer, Lenny Kravitz. The advertising campaign urged potential travelers to “Fly Away” to the beautiful 16 islands of The Bahamas. The Ministry also announced exciting plans for the development of a state of the art cruise port in Nassau.
“It is my great pride and pleasure to report that The Bahamas is experiencing its strongest tourism numbers ever on record. We look forward to building upon the success of our progressive plans and continuing the momentum in 2019 as we forge ahead with exciting new initiatives.”
With the advertising campaign, came record number of new arrivals to the islands. The Bahamas saw a 15% increase in visitors to the island in January, and February saw an 11% increase in international arrivals year-over-year. Air capacity grew by 20% in January and February year-over-year. According to the report, the strongest market for The Bahamas are The United States and Canada.
Last year’s cruise and stopover arrivals showed increases as well. At the end of 2018, foreign air and sea arrivals totaled more than 6.6 million visitors, an increase from the 6.1 million recorded in 2017. The data was compiled partnership with ForwardKeys.
With the success of the advertising campaign, and the increase in traffic, The Bahamas is likely to continue its winning streak, and be a popular destination for some time to come.
