New Social-Media Campaign Engages New Yorkers and Chicagoans with Giveaways and Trips to Arizona

As the bleak months of winter stretch into spring, the Arizona Office of Tourism (AOT) is launching an upbeat and friendly social-media campaign focused on sharing its sunshine.

With an average of 313 sunny days a year and 70-degree winter temperatures, Arizona has sunshine to spare, so it’s sharing a little warmth with New Yorkers and Chicagoans by responding to their posts about gloomy weather with a little something meant to brighten their day.

“We’re excited to share many of the things that make Arizona the best winter vacation destination in America. Sunshine, warmth, adventure and relaxation are exactly what New Yorkers and Chicagoans need this time of year, and this campaign is meant to give them a warm and personal invitation to visit our state.”

Debbie Johnson, Arizona Office of Tourism Director

Come early March, city dwellers in New York and Chicago tend to get fed up with frigid temps, and many go to social media to vent or commiserate. So, to bring warmth and the gift of sunshine to these big cities, Arizona is responding to frustrated Twitter and Instagram users in real time with everything from memes and jokes to food-delivery gift cards and resort stays.

The figurative sunshine Arizona is sharing also includes airfare vouchers, spa packages and tickets to Cactus League Spring Training in 2020. The Arizona Office of Tourism team will begin its “Sunshine to Share” campaign on Twitter and Instagram March 4-6 to New Yorkers and then March 6-8 to Chicagoans.
